Description:
Savoy 3.2.0 imports content into a WordPress site from a WordPress export file. The import is handled by the WordPress Importer, which takes the contents of that file and brings them into the destination site. Material held on one WordPress installation can therefore be carried over to another. The import covers the content itself as well as the information that surrounds it, including the people who wrote it and the labels used to organize it.
Written content is the first part of the import. Posts and pages are imported, along with other custom post types. This means that content types beyond the standard posts and pages, registered on a site as custom post types, are included in the transfer as well. A site that stores content in its own post types therefore does not lose that material during a move. Comments are imported together with their comment meta. The discussion attached to a piece of content therefore travels with it, and the extra data stored against each comment comes across at the same time.
Structured data is imported alongside the written content. Custom fields and post meta are part of the import, and these hold the additional information recorded against each post. Categories and tags are imported as well. The same applies to terms from custom taxonomies, together with their term meta. In other words, the groupings and labels that organize the source site are rebuilt on the destination site along with the content they classify. This keeps the structure of the site intact after the move.
Authors are imported as part of the process, so the people credited with the content are carried over along with everything else. The importer is therefore aimed at anyone moving content from one WordPress site to another using an export file. For further information and instructions, see the documentation on Importing Content at wordpress.org, which explains how exporting and importing content in WordPress works.
