Description:
wp_enqueue_media Override is a WordPress plugin from Alley Interactive that overrides the core wp_enqueue_media function to make it more performant. It beats WordPress to the punch in enqueueing media. The main function is taken from WordPress core, with a couple of major differences in how it queries for has_audio, has_video, and media months.
On sites with large amounts of media, the has_audio, has_video, and media month queries are extremely slow, and this plugin is a fix to speed things up. WordPress does not currently offer a way to intercept these queries or override the function. However, the function checks whether the wp_enqueue_media action has already fired and returns early if it has. By firing that action before WordPress does, the plugin can safely override the functionality.
This plugin is for WordPress sites where these slow media queries are an issue. Most of the code is copied from WordPress core, with the performance updates coming from @philipjohn as posted on Trac ticket 32264. The plugin is a stopgap and can be deprecated once Trac tickets 32264 and 31071 are closed. The source repository was archived on May 15, 2024 and is now read-only.
The vendor’s own page for wp_enqueue_media Override has the full details.
