The Newsletter – Forms 1.0.9 plugin includes a Bounce Addon that allows you to effectively manage bounce reports and delivery error messages for your marketing emails. It is important to note that while this addon cannot detect all types of bounces, it provides valuable insights and helps minimize contact with bounced email addresses.
To ensure accurate bounce reporting, it is recommended to use a professional delivery service for your marketing emails. In addition, you will need to set up a dedicated mailbox to collect delivery error messages. This mailbox should not be your personal mailbox.
Features and Configuration
The Bounce addon analyzes error notification messages, known as DSN (Delivery Status Notification), received when a message is sent to an invalid or unreachable address. It identifies if the bounce has been generated by an email address in your database and marks it as bounced.
If you are using the Post SMTP plugin, please note that the return path set on the Newsletter plugin Main Settings is not respected. An option to set the return address needs to be added in that plugin. You will also need to configure the return path on Newsletter main settings with the email address created for the dedicated mailbox.
The Bounce addon checks the dedicated mailbox every hour and processes up to 1000 messages. However, this frequency can be affected by resource-intensive background processes, such as sending a newsletter to a large list.
If you are using Gmail as your mailbox, you need to enable POP3 explicitly. The POP3 configuration includes a username, password, hostname, and port, which can be found in your provider’s instructions on configuring a generic mail client. If the mailbox supports secure mode (TLS/SSL), you can select the appropriate security protocol and specify the port.
