Newsletter – Import 1.4.0
The Newsletter – Import 1.4.0 plugin provides advanced import functionality, allowing you to easily import a list of contacts saved in CSV format into your newsletter subscribers’ database. With this addon, you can map the CSV columns to the respective subscriber fields, making the import process seamless.
You have two options for importing the data – it can be available in a text file CSV or you can simply copy and paste the data. Copy and paste can be particularly useful when dealing with encoding issues or language-specific characters, as the browser automatically converts them.
To generate a CSV file, you can use Excel’s “Save as” feature or copy and paste the data from Excel to a text editor and save the file with a .csv extension. The first line of the file should contain the field names, and there are no constraints on how the fields are named or their order.
If the CSV contains columns that are not relevant for your import, simply leave those columns unmapped to subscriber fields, and they will be ignored.
Please note that Facebook exports are coded in a specific format (UTF16 LE) that cannot be read by this addon. To convert it, you can open the Facebook CSV file with Excel and resave it as a UTF8 CSV, without using text delimiters.
The only required field for import is the email address, which is used to check if the subscriber is already in your database. Depending on the import mode, the addon treats the data differently. You can find more information about skipped records and how to fix them in the import log files on the SystemLogs page. If you need even more details, you can temporarily set the log level to debug in the Newsletter main settings and run the import again.
If you want to ask subscribers to activate their subscription, you can import them as not confirmed and send them a newsletter with a link or button, using the tag “[subscriptionconfirmurl]” as the URL. This will invite them to click and confirm their subscription.
