Remote Content is a Popup Maker extension that loads content into a popup on demand when that content is not already on the page. The content can come from another URL on the same site or from another website. Any link can be turned into a popup showing the content behind it, targeted with a one click trigger or custom CSS selectors. Iframes load on demand to improve page load performance, and iframe based forms are supported.
Four loading methods exist. Load fetches an entire page or part of it through a CSS selector. iFrame loads the full page. AJAX gives full control over the data passed and the content returned. Post Type Content turns links to a specific post type into an AJAX popup with a customizable HTML template, marked experimental. Internal links can use any method, external links are limited to iFrame, and custom or non link triggers suit AJAX. The extension adds a Remote Content Box shortcode, extra Click Trigger settings, CSS selector presets, loading icon settings, and APIs for custom dynamic content.
It fits bloggers opening posts in popups without page changes, directory sites, bbPress and BuddyPress communities, shops showing cart contents or add to cart confirmations, coupon sites, and video galleries. The AJAX method requires custom code.
