Description:
The official AMP plugin for WordPress brings fully integrated AMP publishing to WordPress sites. AMP is an open-source initiative from the AMP Project that aims to make the web better for all, enabling web experiences that are consistently fast, beautiful and high-performing across distribution platforms. AMP formerly stood for Accelerated Mobile Pages, but it now works completely across desktop and mobile. The plugin is aimed at WordPress publishers who want to build AMP experiences without deviating from the standard, flexible and well-known WordPress content creation workflow.
The plugin provides AMP-first experiences, enabling full-site AMP without sacrificing the flexibility of the platform or the fidelity of content. It supports all core themes, from Twenty Ten through Twenty Twenty. A compatibility tool helps debug AMP validation errors when automatic conversion of markup is not possible, showing detailed information about the invalid markup and the specific components responsible, such as a theme, plugin or embed, with errors shown contextually next to their blocks in the editor. CSS tree shaking automatically removes the majority of unused CSS to bring the total under AMP's 75KB limit, and server-side rendering through an integrated PHP port of the AMP Optimizer improves the Last Contentful Paint metric.
The plugin offers three template modes: Standard, Transitional and Reader. Standard mode uses AMP as the framework for the whole site, while Reader and Transitional modes pair each canonical URL with a corresponding AMP URL. Reader mode serves AMP only for singular posts, pages and other post types, whereas Standard and Transitional modes serve the entire site as AMP. The AMP version is served to mobile visitors who find the content on platforms such as Twitter, Pinterest and Google Search. Note that the Stories experience has been removed from the plugin in favor of a standalone plugin.
