Description:
The Options Framework Plugin makes it easy to include a full featured options panel in any WordPress theme. It is intended for theme authors who want to offer settings in their themes. The plugin is still maintained and secure, but the recommended way to add options in new themes is the Customizer.
To set up an options panel in a theme, download the Options Check theme from GitHub and use its files as a base. It is a blueprint with a sample panel containing every option type and a demo of how to display each one on the front end. Available option types include text, textarea, checkbox, select, radio, an image uploader, images in place of radio buttons, background settings, multicheck, a jQuery color picker, typography settings and an editor. A heading type defines the menu tabs, and an info type adds additional information to the panel. Options are returned with of_get_option, passing an id and a default.
The plugin is not required for a theme to work, since each option should have a default used when the plugin is not installed. Theme authors decide how to tell users that options are available, such as a notice on activation or notes in the documentation. The plugin is not actively developed, though compatibility and bug fixes are handled on request.
The vendor’s own page for Options Framework has the full details.
