Description:

The Salient Demo Importer is a plugin for the Salient WordPress theme. It installs one of the Salient demos into your site, complete with its pages, images and theme options, so you start from a finished layout and edit it. Every demo can be previewed before you import it on the Salient prebuilt websites page.

The importer runs from a tab inside the Salient options panel. After you have installed and activated the plugin, open the Salient options panel in your WordPress admin dashboard and click the Demo Importer tab on the left hand side. To import a demo, click the blue Import Demo button for the demo you want. A modal then appears, listing the plugins used by that demo at the top. If a plugin is not already active, click the install or activate button next to it before continuing.

Once the required plugins are active, you choose what to import from the demo. There are three options. Demo Content brings in the actual page and post content of the demo. Theme Option Settings applies the theme option settings, and you can disable this option if you do not wish to override your current settings. Widgets imports the widgets used for the demo, which are then added to the Widgets section under Appearance.

If an import fails, the likely cause is a low PHP max_execution_time setting on your server. Demos with more images take longer to import, and demos added in v8.0 and above include a full set of sample images that can take a minute to import. The recommended PHP settings are an upload_max_filesize and post_max_size of 35M or greater, a max_execution_time of 150 or greater and a memory_limit of 128M or greater, and your hosting company can adjust these for you. For WooCommerce shops, product image sizes are set in the Product Images tab of the WooCommerce section in the WordPress Customizer and default to slightly low values. Salient does not force a specific size, and the WooCommerce demos commonly use a main image width of 800, a thumbnail width of 600 and custom thumbnail cropping with an aspect ratio of 4:5.
