Description:
ScrollMagic is a JavaScript library for magical scroll interactions. It helps you react to the user's current scroll position, so page elements can respond to how far a visitor has scrolled. The library is a complete rewrite of its predecessor Superscrollorama by John Polacek. A plugin-based architecture offers easy customizability and extendability.
The library covers a range of scroll based effects. You can animate based on scroll position, either by triggering an animation or by synchronizing it to the scrollbar movement like a playback scrub control. You can pin an element starting at a specific scroll position, indefinitely or for a limited amount of scroll progress, which is how sticky elements are made. CSS classes can be toggled on and off based on scroll position, parallax effects can be added, and an infinitely scrolling page can be created through ajax loading of additional content. Callbacks can fire at specific scroll positions or while scrolling past a section, and they receive a progress parameter.
ScrollMagic was developed with a set of principles in mind. It is optimized for performance and lightweight at 6KB gzipped. It offers flexibility and extendibility, mobile compatibility, event management and support for responsive web design. The code follows object oriented programming and object chaining, and it is written to be readable and centralized so development stays intuitive. Both scroll directions are supported, even different directions on one page, and scrolling inside div containers is supported as well, including multiple containers on one page. Extensive debugging and logging capabilities are built in.
The library is aimed at developers who want to animate based on scroll position, pin elements, toggle classes, add parallax effects or build infinitely scrolling pages. It ships with detailed documentation and many application examples. You can install it with bower install scrollmagic or npm install scrollmagic, download it as a ZIP or tar package, or visit the GitHub project page for other sources. If problems come up, the troubleshooting guide should be followed before posting in the GitHub issues section. ScrollMagic was created by Jan Paepke, and websites built with it are showcased on the project page.
