Description:
Fuzzy Matches is an extension for SearchWP, the WordPress search plugin. It makes SearchWP more lenient with search queries by including search terms that are close in spelling to terms within your index. Filters are available to fine-tune how loose the fuzziness is. Note that this extension is deprecated as of SearchWP version 3.0 and will be removed.
The extension is recommended only in circumstances that deem it necessary, because it reduces the effectiveness of SearchWP's algorithm. Fuzzy Matches broadens search terms, which can bring in unwanted results. SearchWP advises monitoring your actual search queries with the built-in statistics first, so you can evaluate which search terms yield zero results. If failed searches come from common misspellings, the first step is to install Term Synonyms. Fuzzy Matches is suggested only when there are too many common misspellings for managing Term Synonyms to be feasible.
Three filters control the behavior. searchwp_fuzzy_min_length sets the minimum word length to include in fuzzy matches, with a default of 5. searchwp_fuzzy_threshold sets the minimum percentage that constitutes a valid match when SearchWP applies primitive spell checking to submitted terms, and must be between 0 and 100, with a default of 80. searchwp_fuzzy_digit_threshold sets the maximum percentage of digits in a search term for spell checking to run, with a default of 10.
The vendor’s own page for SearchWP Fuzzy Matches has the full details.
