Description:
SearchWP Term Highlight is an extension for the SearchWP WordPress search plugin. When active, it automatically scrubs the Title and Excerpt returned from searches and wraps search terms in a span, allowing you to highlight them in a way that matches your site design. It also includes a function that retrieves an excerpt from the post content or from a Custom Field containing at least one of the search terms. Installation works like any other WordPress plugin: download the zip file from your account, upload and install it, then activate it from the Plugins list in the WordPress administration area.
Once activated, the extension automatically highlights terms within the Title and Excerpt for native WordPress searches. Highlights are applied by wrapping terms in a span with the class searchwp-highlight, which you can target in your CSS. The extension also automatically overrides calls to the_excerpt() on search results pages, replacing that content with an excerpt that contains at least one search term from the main content, and it highlights terms in that content as well. This behavior can be disabled or customized through available filters, and you can also generate excerpts from additional sources, including Custom Fields.
Note that this extension is deprecated as of SearchWP version 3.0 and will be removed. It also does not automatically highlight terms for Supplemental Search Engine searches, so templates must be customized to pass content through the highlighter before output.
The vendor’s own page for SearchWP Term Highlight has the full details.
