SportsPress Team Access is an extension for SportsPress Pro that lets you control what team members can see and modify on your site. It works by adding a set of user roles to WordPress that are suited to sports teams, so you can organize players, staff, and managers in a logical way. By assigning a role, you control access to publishing, editing, and deleting teams, players, staff members, matches, and more. The extension is aimed at anyone running a sports team site, and it is especially useful if you manage multiple teams and want control over the information each person can see and change.

The extension provides five pre-defined roles. The League Manager has access to all SportsPress features, including settings. The Team Manager manages teams and has full access to publish, edit, and delete players, staff, events, player lists, and posts, and can submit for review or edit assigned teams. The Event Manager manages events with full access to publish, edit, and delete them, and can submit for review or edit assigned players, staff, teams, and posts. The Staff role can submit for review or edit assigned staff, events, teams, and posts, while the Player role can do the same for assigned players, events, teams, and posts. Each role comes with a pre-determined set of abilities, and you can assign or remove certain abilities as well as create new user roles. You can also set the default role for new users in Settings > General.

To use Team Access, you add your players and staff as registered WordPress users from Users > Add New, fill out their profile information, and select the appropriate role from the User Role drop-down menu. After editing the user, you scroll down to Team Access to select their team. The user then receives an email notification with their username and a prompt to create a password. Once logged in, they only see the team they have been assigned to. They can edit their own information from the Staff menu, manage their profile with biographical information and a Gravatar, customize the dashboard color scheme, add and manage players and staff for their assigned team, create matches, schedule tournaments, and post on the site. Each team member also needs to be associated with the corresponding user from Players > All Players > Edit Player or Staff > All Staff > Edit.

Assigning an appropriate role to each team member means they only see menus relevant to them, which makes the dashboard more user-friendly and easier to navigate for first-time users. It also creates stricter permissions, so there is no risk of users accidentally modifying settings they should not touch. Adding team members this way encourages them to interact with your website, helps build team spirit, allows players to connect with their fans, and lets fans and press members get in touch with the right person.
