Description:
WP Migrate Compatibility 1.3 is a feature of WP Migrate DB Pro that controls how WordPress plugins and themes are loaded for requests made during migrations. WP Migrate DB Pro uses AJAX requests to perform migrations, and every time an AJAX request is served by WordPress, all of WordPress core, the active theme, and all active plugins are loaded. Compatibility mode cuts down on that overhead by excluding plugins and the default theme from loading during migration requests.
The feature is automatically enabled and set to exclude all plugins and themes. This greatly reduces the chance of another plugin disrupting the migration process, may boost the overall speed of the migration, and reduces the migration's memory footprint by excluding unnecessary plugins. It is important to note that plugins and themes are only excluded once the request has been identified as a migration request from WP Migrate DB Pro. Plugins or the theme are never actually disabled, they are simply not loaded. The WP Migrate DB Pro core and addon plugins are automatically excluded from the exclusion list to ensure plugins required to execute the migration are not excluded, and plugins that start with wp-migrate-db or wpmdb will always be loaded.
If required, plugins can be added to an allow list so they load during migration requests. To include specific plugins, click on the Settings tab, confirm that the Load Select Plugins for Migration Requests toggle under Advanced Settings is enabled or enable it, select the plugins you wish to enable, and click Save. By default this feature is enabled and no plugins are selected. There is also a filter available: using the wpmdb_compatibility_plugin_whitelist filter, a plugin can be included by adding its plugin slug to the plugins array. A plugin added this way is always enabled during migrations without using the plugin selector or the settings. The wpmdb_compatibility_enable_theme hook can be used if the default theme needs to load during a migration.
Compatibility mode works in most cases for most plugins. However, since it works by intercepting requests for the active_plugins option, any hooks fired prior to the query section of the get_option() function will not get intercepted, such as the query filter fired in wp-includes/wp-db.php before a query is run. A serialized data error about failing to instantiate an object can occur if a plugin stores a serialized object in the database, and the fix is to include that plugin in the allowed list. The feature suits anyone running WP Migrate DB Pro migrations who wants to avoid plugin interference.
