The Brevo Addon, formerly known as the Sendinblue Addon, integrates the Brevo mail delivery service with The Newsletter Plugin. Brevo was previously called Sendinblue, and the addon connects your WordPress newsletter setup to this delivery service so that emails sent by the plugin are handled through your Brevo account. It is intended for users of The Newsletter Plugin who want to route their newsletter delivery through Brevo instead of relying on other sending methods.

Setting up the addon is described as pretty easy and involves a few steps. First, you need a Sendinblue account, which is free to create. You only pay if you want to deliver more emails than the free plan provides or if you use other services. Once the account exists, you add a sender in the Brevo console and validate it by entering the email address you use to send your newsletters and following the instructions given there. It is important to make sure the same sender is configured in the main settings of the Newsletter plugin.

After the sender is validated, the addon needs an API key to communicate with the service. In the Brevo console you select SMTP & API and create a new API key of type 3, and you should pay attention to generating a version 3 API key. The new key appears in a list, and you copy it and paste it into the addon integration on the addon settings page. Once the key is in place, the setup is done and you can run some tests to confirm everything works.

A key point covered in the documentation is why transactional emails matter. The Newsletter plugin needs to send one email per subscriber, because each message is customized with tracking links, cancellation links, profile links and similar elements. The only way to send these individual emails through the service is the Transactional API, since the Campaign API exists only to create and run campaigns, not to send single emails.
